See moreA gothic horror novel that plunges readers into a world of madness, suicide and anarchist punk.
A gothic horror tale of severe mental distress and punk rock, The Primal Screamer is written in the form of a diary kept by a psychiatrist, Dr. Rodney H. Dweller, concerning his patient, Nathaniel Snoxell, brought to him in 1979 after a series of attempted suicides.
Snoxell gets involved in the nascent UK anarcho-punk scene, recording and playing gigs in squatted anarchist centres. In 1985, the good doctor himself 'goes insane' and disappears.
This semi-autobiographical novel by singer, guitarist, lyricist and illustrator Nick Blinko features his unique artwork.
Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?
Critics praise the book for its haunting, dense narrative and dark humour. Raw Vision called it "dense, haunted, shot through with black humour," while Maximum RocknRoll described Blinko as "a madman" in the most factual sense. The Big Issue highlighted the fascinating insights into both the punk scene and the author's unsettling mindscape. Reviews consistently note the gothic atmosphere and authenticity in depicting severe mental distress, with Kerrang calling it "fascinating and compelling."
