I really really loved this book! The mystery twisted with romance in this book is spectacular and very well written, and the culture and family connections in this book are also incredibly strong. I loved that as I read this book, I genuinely couldn't tell who the murderer/bad guy was, and once the twist was revealed I was actually more surprised than I probably should have been. The rivals-to-lovers in this was super sweet, and I wish I could read it again for the first time! This book is perfect for anyone ages 13-18. I totally recommend it!

I was immediately taken with this novel, from the stunning cover to the intriguing premise. I love anything that tackles wellness culture or cults or both, as well as sisterhood and family dynamics. This novel pulls you in right from the opening scene of a body discovered. From there we enter a story that is about two sisters on the beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney. One is heartbroken, the other living her best life. Both get drawn into the Centre for Personal Excellence, and a self-development community that seems too good to be true.
I loved the mystery within this story and the way I really couldn't tell what was coming around each corner and new chapter. The two sisters felt authentic and real, and their experiences were heartbreaking in different ways. as they grapple with the secrets behind the community and the wellness influencer, Lumelia. The use of different view points reveals things in a way that is both satisfying, and keeps you constantly wanting more.
If you enjoyed books like Lianne Moriarty's Nine Perfect Strangers or The Retreat by Mark Edwards, this will be the perfect next read for you - but it's also great if you just want a page turner with excellent characters and a well-woven together plot.
Angel Down is a read like nothing else I've come across. From the very first paragraph I was blown away by the incredible writing but also overwhelmed by the manner in which Daniel Kraus tells the story in one, bombarding, sentence. This is a deliberate choice, and a very effective one - it makes you feel like you are right there in the trenches and the battle field, disoriented and overwhelmed. It's a genius of a novel, and I'm glad it won the Pullitzer or I may not have picked it up. There were points where I felt fatigued (again, a deliberate choice) but it's so worth persisting right to the very last 'and'. The whole story comes together at the end as an unforgettable feat of storytelling.

They say not to judge a book by the cover, but I am absolutely in love with the beautiful cat in Fires of December, and I maintain its worth picking up for that alone. This is the third book in Hoid’s Travails and I think this might be the best iteration of his narrator voice so far. As always, there are a few Easter eggs referencing other Cosmere works, but this is still a very good choice for a first Cosmere read. And if you enjoyed Tress and Yumi, you’ll feel right at home here.
With a healthy dose of magic, adventure and romance, this is a story about living up to your potential and not being held back by the expectations of others. I really loved it and definitely recommend.
This book was completely thought provoking and intreguing. I couldn't put it down and enjoyed the context, the writing style and story. I felt myself relating to some of the characters and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a psychological adventure.
This book delivered much more than I was expecting. I was looking forward to learning the inside story of what made Shihad tick and reading a few backstage anecdotes. What I got was a funny and at times heartbreaking life story of a relatable and sensitive guy who had a big hand in creating one of the greatest bands of my lifetime. Made me laugh, made me cry is the classic review cliché, but Home Again literally managed it.
This is the first book I’ve read by Claire Douglas. It didn’t disappoint! Enough intrigue and twists to keep me from putting it down, but nothing too gruesome. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Immediately ordered two more of her books!
This a brilliant follow up to her first novel “Guilt by Definition” which is also an excellent read. I read this first - so it did mean I then knew the outcome to her first book which shares the same main characters and setting. Didn’t matter much but read in correct order if you can. It is very clever, thoroughly enjoyable and prepare for late nights if you want to get through it in a hurry as it is gripping reading. I heard Susie Dent on RNZ National so thought I’ d give her books a go. Very pleased to have done so. Very much hope she writes more like this.
I really enjoy Kate Atkinson’s work and would give this a 3.5 stars. It’s a good read but not in the class of earlier titles like A God in Ruins or Life after Life. It took until well into the second half of the book to really grab me & it’s then a good finish. If you’re a fan like me you should enjoy it.
