New Reads to add to your TBR

Fiction and Non Fiction are both pulling some big punches this week with a number of books I'd rather like to bring home.

New releases to add to your TBR

Fiction New Releases!

The first book that should be on everyone's radar (except of COURSE the new ACOTAR but we've raved about that plenty) is Public Access After World. This is one especially anyone who loved books like Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, or Ministry of Time, or any inventive work of fiction that is hard to define and blurs genres. One of our wonderful reviewers, Ruby, read an ARC and raved about it - and I already have my copy waiting for post Halloween season.

On 12th June 2009, David Sawyer and Erin Morrison, two lonely, TV-obsessed suburban teens who might be falling in love, gather in Erin's basement to watch TV's analogue-to-digital transition. Beneath the static that follows, Erin catches a glimpse of a mysterious broadcast from a TV network called Public Access Afterworld. Soon after that, she vanishes - changing the trajectory of David's life forever.

I am not leaving today without Scorpion Deep by CG Drews. Anyone who has asked me for a book recommendation has heard me rave about Hazelthorn, the book that introduced me to the idea of Botanical Horror. Scorpion Deep is finally available here in Aotearoa and is another dark, unsettling story that also has a queer YA love story at its core, except this time I think rather than botanical horror we have some eldritch sea god action instead and I have no doubt it will be gloriously disturbing and beautifully written.

The second book coming home today is Wild Wicked Mate by Laurie Gilmore, the follow up to Big Bad Wolf which I loved, part of the Maple Hollow series which is the werewolf twist on Laurie Gilmore's iconic small town romance. I can't wait.

There's SO many beautiful special editions out this week. The Song of the Sirens is a brand new book, released in beautiful sprayed edge paperback format. If you're after a romantasy about sisterhood and morally grey romance, immortal clans and more - this will be ideal. It looks excellent.

I am SO excited to finally be able to read Ballad of Falling Dragons after waiting very patiently for the Deluxe Edition to match Book One. It's a treasure. Us romantasy fans are also spoilt this week with a beautiful special edition of Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber, the gorgeous sprayed edge edition of the fae romance, Court of Monsters and Malice by Eliza Raine, and the boxset collection of the incredibly popular Powerless Trilogy by Lauren Roberts that I somehow haven't read yet.

Non-Fiction New Release

The two big ones this week to check out include Suzanne Paul's Your Time Is Now, and Beyond the Gates of Gloriavale by Rosanna Overcomer. Your Time is Now is exactly what you'd expect and want from a Suzanne Paul book, an inspirational invitation to taking action and pursuing your dreams. Her personality that is so beloved by us Kiwis shines through every page, and you can't help but leave reading this one feeling ready to take on anything. Beyond the Gates of Gloriavale is an incredibly powerful memoir from a woman who managed to escape a life of complete obedience, and the life that came next. I can't wait to read this one.

We are also so excited that both Suzanne and Rosanna came along to Hero HQ to sign all the copies of their two wonderful books, so if you get in quick you'll nab yourself a signed copy.

If you love a memoir but want something sportier, Drive by Christian Horner has also arrived, covering a twenty year career of someone at the pinnacle of Formula 1. I am yet to watch a race, but I know many of you will love this one.

I am obsessed with the  idea of Botanica Erotica, a brand new non-fiction book that's arrived, all about plants that are naughty by nature. A beautifully designed hardback, this would make such a great gift for someone who happens to be into both plants and romance (too niche? I think not). Similarly beautiful and plant focused is Live Like a Wildflower, by an instagram personality who I LOVE, Ally Ferguson. This book is her guide for women to embrace their imperfect selves and find joy in the everyday. Again, would make such a great gift but I'm not sure I will be able to wait long enough for anyone to gift it to me. It's not too late for one more spooky season read, and Kaz Cooke delivers with Spooky Ladies - a glorious collection of rebellious women including characters like Madame Blavatsky, Helen Duncan (the last woman tried for witchcraft) and more more.

Let us know which new release you are adding to your own TBR!
