Quick Games for Your Lunch Break

The Book Hero team has been enjoying playing games on our lunch breaks recently! These are some of my favourites that are easy to learn, fast paced, and you can fit in a couple of rounds during your break. A lot of these picks are competitive games that will get your heart racing as soon as you start!

Liquid error (sections/main-collection-list line 244): Could not find asset snippets/staff-profile-value.liquidPerfect for group settings, game nights and camps, Dutch Blitz can be played individually or in pairs. Another game of speed, try to block other people from putting their cards down while emptying your deck to win. For most of Dutch Blitz you won’t know what’s going on, and by the time you figure it out someone else will have already won.

Bananagrams

Liquid error (sections/main-collection-list line 244): Could not find asset snippets/staff-profile-value.liquidBananagrams is a great starter game on Game Nights to get everyone thinking and have some laughs! It's like scrabble but without the points or board. Fast paced and slightly chaotic, it's a great team building game too - you really get to know how people think! It's one of our staples for camping because of it's compact banana bag and all you really need is a semi flat surface to play it.

Exploding Kittens

2–6 players
Liquid error (sections/main-collection-list line 244): Could not find asset snippets/staff-profile-value.liquidExploding Kittens is easily one of the most addictive and chaotic board games out there. I’ve played it for years and have taken it with me on countless travels, playing with family, friends, and even people I’ve met along the way. It’s a great icebreaker - although friendships may not survive! There’s absolutely no remorse in this game. It’s all about sabotage, stealing, and doing whatever you can to make sure someone else explodes before you. It can have you laughing one minute and wanting to flip the table the next! Despite being easy to learn, there’s plenty of strategy hidden underneath the chaos. Personal favourite expansions are Imploding Kittens and Streaking Kittens, which add even more twists and excitement. The best part is when the deck gets...

Spot It!

Spot It!

2–8 players
Liquid error (sections/main-collection-list line 244): Could not find asset snippets/staff-profile-value.liquidEven the base game of Spot it! has so many variations it’s hard to keep up. The premise is simple: match one of the pictures on your card to a picture on another card, and yet you’ll find it so hard to find a match when you’re under pressure.
