Act on 8 percent understanding and build unstoppable momentum from scratch

In Unready: The Surprising Advantage of Acting Before You Feel Ready, Soulaima Gourani, a serial tech entrepreneur, Fortune 500 advisor, World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, and venture partner in the space and defence industry, shares the unconventional operating principle behind her rise from seventh-grade dropout to Silicon Valley founder who raised millions in VC funding and won Best AI Product of 2024.

Drawing on her own journey and six years of her weekly podcast interviews with global leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and changemakers, Gourani introduces the 8% Rule: if you understand eight percent of a situation, that is enough to act. Rather than waiting for perfect information, she demonstrates how action creates momentum and how courage outperforms credentials. The book provides a framework for operating boldly when you feel underqualified, underfunded, or underestimated by those around you.

Readers will also discover:

  • How to convert incomplete knowledge into decisive action using the 8% Rule as your operating framework
  • Strategies for building momentum and winning against the odds when resources and credentials are limited
  • Real-world lessons from Gourani’s journey raising millions in VC funding and building an award-winning AI company
  • Techniques for overcoming the paralysis of waiting for perfect information before committing to bold moves
  • Practical guidance on prioritising courage over credentials and choosing action over analysis in high-stakes situations

Unready belongs on the shelf of entrepreneurs, founders, aspiring leaders, and anyone who has ever felt underqualified or underestimated. Gourani’s hard-won framework turns uncertainty into a launchpad for decisive, momentum-building action that defies conventional expectations.

About the Author

SOULAIMA GOURANI is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, venture partner at Andromeda Ventures, and strategic curator at The DO, where she guides the human side of AI transformation and innovation for global companies. A former street child and seventh-grade dropout, she built and exited an award-winning tech startup.

Her insights are distilled from a massive empirical data set: six years of weekly interviews with 300+ global leaders and three decades of operating across 50 countries. An Executive MBA graduate of Copenhagen Business School, her global academic foundation includes advanced training at Harvard, Wharton, Yale, and Cambridge, with specialized leadership modules at NTU (Singapore), HKUST (Hong Kong), ISB (India), INCAE (Costa Rica), and Torcuato Di Tella (Argentina).

Recognized as a Thinkers50 honoree, WEF Young Global Leader, and one of the Top 100 Women in Tech, Soulaima has delivered over 2,000 talks worldwide and guest lectured at Harvard, London Business School, and Hult. She serves as a TED Fellow mentor, a jury member for the Global Teacher Prize, and an advisor to the Danish Government’s Founders Growth Club. A former advisor to UN Women and a former jury member for EY Entrepreneur of the Year, she lives in the U.S. and Denmark with her family, teaching leaders to act before they feel ready.
