The action-packed start to a thrilling new epic fantasy series from New York Times bestseller Anthony Ryan, author of Blood Song

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The new star of British fantasy returns with The Waking Fire, a thrilling new epic fantasy of exploration and adventure, spies and assassins, explosive magic and the battle for empire.

Ignite the fires of war

Claydon Torcreek is a bareknuckle brawler and small-time thief, who cares little for matters of empire. Yet the failure of his latest heist (not to mention some old-fashioned blackmail) has left him with no choice but to accept a dangerous mission in service to his country.

War is coming, and Clay is almost certainly going to be on the losing side... unless he can hunt down a fabled creature whose valuable blood might just turn the tide - if it even exists. Clay has handled many things in his time (most of them illegal), but nothing as priceless as his nation's future.
