Summary

I Have a Question follows Stevie, a child who finds it frightening to speak up in class. When the teacher asks if anyone has questions, Stevie wishes someone else would ask first. Despite the fear of being laughed at or judged, Stevie’s curiosity drives a heartfelt and humorous journey of overcoming shyness to ask a question. The story is tender and empowering for anyone who’s ever felt too scared or shy to speak out.

"Written with terrific humor, empathy, and tenderness, author-illustrator Andrew Arnold's I Have a Question is wonderfully funny and mightily empowering--inspiring anyone who has ever felt too shy, too silly or too afraid to raise their hand."--

From rising picture-book star Andrew Arnold comes a book for anyone who's ever felt too shy, too afraid, or too silly to raise their hand and ask a question.

Description

For Stevie, speaking up in class can be scary. So when Ms. Gail asks, "Are there any questions?", Stevie looks around the classroom, hoping someone will raise their hand. But no one does. No one has a single question. Except Stevie.

"I can't ask, can I? If I do, I know just what will happen," Stevie thinks, beginning a journey of worried imagination. Everyone will certainly laugh, they'll think the question is silly, they'll think Stevie is silly.

But Stevie has to know. Stevie has to ask.

Written with humour, empathy, and tenderness, Andrew Arnold's I Have a Question is wonderfully funny and mightily empowering— inspiring anyone who has ever felt too shy, too silly or too afraid to raise their hand.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Praised by Caldecott Honorees Mac Barnett and Barbara Lehman for its warmth, wit, humour, and relatability, the book captures the bravery found in small acts. Horn Book highlights how the story reassures reluctant questioners that asking questions is a worthy endeavour, even when questions seem silly.
