The One We Buried

From the New York Times bestselling author of What Lies in the Woods, The One We Buried is a thrilling novel where Yellowjackets meets Nine Perfect Strangers in an exploration of troubled girlhood, ritual, transformation, and murder.

Thirteen years ago, Nic, Alanna, Talia, and Jess were sent to Sanctuary Springs, a remote retreat nestled in hills known for their bubbling hot springs. Dr. Elizabeth Sheffield ran an experimental programme there for gifted yet troubled girls. At the end of the programme, she promised these young women, who were full of wasted potential, that they would be completely reborn.

Three months later, the girls emerged changed. They went on to achieve great success, but none have ever disclosed what truly occurred that summer in the hills.

When Nic is attacked and her fiancé is killed, she returns to Sanctuary Springs. There, Talia has established a luxury wellness retreat, aiming to introduce a diluted version of their "rebirth" to the public. As the group begins to re-engage with old rites and rituals, Nic becomes convinced that her fiancé's murder is linked to the events of that summer, raising tensions and bringing long-buried secrets to the surface.

As Nic faces the reality of what happened that summer, she must decide whether to embrace the circle they formed—or dismantle it for good.
