Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Arriving in Panama, the broad cultural and ethnic diversity of this small country is one of its most outstanding and attractive attributes, and is reflected in its many customs. There is not just the beauty of the countryside to be discovered, but the variety of regional and local ways of life.

Panama has preserved much of its indigenous Indian culture and this unique way of life continues to thrive alongside the imprint of two centuries of development. Small though it is, Panama combines the latest technology and modern commerce with an environmentally and anthropologically rich heritage. This means that you can be in the fast-moving metropolis of Panama City, and yet be less than an hour's flight away from dense rain forests and the very different indigenous cultural life.

Despite continuous foreign domination in the past, the Panamanians now have complete sovereignty over their country. Masters in their own house at last, they are both proud and welcoming. Good manners are as important to them as the original laid-back Latin style, and you will find them friendly, polite, and relaxed.

Culture Smart! Panama hopes to enrich your experience by offering insights into Panamanian society and sensibilities, and practical advice on how to behave in different situations. It describes the historical background, values and attitudes, and Panamanian life at work and at home. The better you come to know these resourceful and hospitable people, the warmer your welcome will be.

The second-largest country in South America, Argentina has been through great changes in recent years. Its journey from dictatorship to democracy has left many scars, but these are largely eclipsed by the pride and resilience of the Argentinian people, who have developed a style, a language, and a joie de vivre that are all their own. Don't just see the sightsβ€”get to know the people. At first sight, modern-day Egypt is an unruly and chaotic place: a cacophony of sounds, an overload of smells, and a swirling visual feast. Ancient church domes and medieval minarets share the same space with fast-food chains and chic air-conditioned cafes. Egyptian society has undergone dramatic changes in recent years, yet...

The historian Tadeusz Swietochowski calls Azerbaijan the quintessential borderland, many times over: between Europe and Asia, Islam and Christianity, Russia and the Middle East, Turks and Iranians, Shi'a and Sunni Islam. Although a relatively young country, having declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, the culture of its predominately Azeri population stretches back through a colourful history of over...

  • Belgium - Culture Smart!
Don't just see the sightsβ€”get to know the people. Belgium has somehow acquired the reputation of being Europe's most boring countryβ€”a reputation that is entirely undeserved. But perhaps this bland image is a smokescreen, the conventional exterior hiding a subversive sense of humour, a surreal imagination, and a deep-rooted disdain for authority. Or perhaps it is a camouflage, a way...
