Description
Find the Fairies by Emily Hawkins offers a delightful fairy matching game that invites you to reunite fairies with their friends. This fun and easy-to-learn game comes in a sturdy gift box containing 40 cards, each measuring 8.8 x 6.6 cm / 3.5 x 2.6 in., along with a 28-page booklet. The compact box size is 10 x 14.4 x 4.7 cm / 4 x 5.5 x 1.75 in.
The game features 20 diverse fairy species from all parts of the world. You can match pairs from the same species, discovering enchanting fairies from regions such as the Alpine, Savannah, Rainforest, and Polar areas. The included illustrated booklet not only covers game rules but also provides fairy facts and tips for finding them yourself, making it a perfect screen-free entertainment for fairy lovers aged 4 and up.
Based on the popular book from the Folklore Field Guides series, A Natural History of Fairies, the cards showcase naturalist illustrations of various fairy species. The booklet serves as a field guide to these species, detailing their habitats, dwellings, distinctive features, and habits. For example, learn about the Firefly Sprite (Nympha scintilla) using bioluminescence to navigate bamboo forests in China, or the Himalayan Oread (Nympha nipalensis) hibernating in snowy burrows during winter and feeding on flower nectar in mountain meadows during summer.
The booklet also provides advice on where and when to look for fairies and how to recognize signs of their presence. To play the game, arrange the cards face down on a table, then flip two over. Do they show the same fairy species? If so, you collect the pair. If not, try to remember the location of different fairy species to make a match on your next turn. Test your memory skills and learn about the diverse fairies of the world while you play. To win, gather more pairs than your opponent!
The Folklore Field Guides series is a charming collection of beautifully illustrated handbooks on topics of lore and legend. Each book combines fascinating facts with breathtaking illustrations, presented in an engaging narrative form.
Also available from the series: A Natural History of Fairies, A Natural History of Magical Beasts, A Natural History of Mermaids, and A Natural History of Magick.
