Contingent Agencies is an artistic research project initiated by Alex Arteaga and Nikolaus Gansterer. It is dedicated to the dynamic relationship between human and nonhuman forces as conditions for the emergence of atmospheres.

The cross-disciplinary investigation utilises practices of notating, reflecting, showing, and sharing that are employed in different media and within different theoretical contexts such as phenomenology, enactivism, and new materialism.

This book, which is supplemented by an extensive online archive, contains numerous research artefacts such as texts, drawings, photo series, diagrams, sound recordings, and video stills. It is intended as an invitation to a wider community to participate in this investigation.

    The Iliad
When Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey appeared in 2017—revealing the ancient poem in a contemporary idiom that was "fresh, unpretentious and lean" (Madeline Miller, Washington Post)—critics lauded it as "a revelation" (Susan Chira, New York Times) and "a cultural landmark" (Charlotte Higgins, Guardian) that would forever change how Homer is read in English. Now Wilson has returned with an...

At the centre of that vision was Noel Crombie—percussionist, performer and the...
