Chloe has a dot on her shirt called a node. So do her friends and family. They arejoined by lines called edges. Everyone is connected.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Connected introduces the mathematical concept of networks, where no node is left unconnected, emphasising the importance of community and the connection that exists between people.

Chloe is here to teach you about networks! She has a dot on her shirt called a node. So do her siblings, Jack and Willow. As family, their nodes are connected by an edge. Each of them are connected to their friends by edges, and then their friends' friends, until the network is expanded further and further. In maths, this is called a spanning tree, where no node is left unconnected!

This book sits somewhere between fiction and non-fiction with an easy-to-understand introduction to the mathematical concept of networks, as well as a reassurance to readers that they're never alone. Connected will particularly appeal to visual and spatial learners, with a sentimental quality making it enjoyable as a leisure read.

About the Author

R. A. Stephens is a teacher by day, writer, editor and publisher by night. When not working, teaching or writing, she enjoys living in the country and spending time with her kids and cats.

Tamlyn Teow is an artist, illustrator and props designer. In 2013, she left a corporate career to learn how stories are told through art. Tamlyn has worked in the art department for various productions, including Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Peter Rabbit 2, Shang-Chi (Marvel Studios) and North Shore. She has illustrated a number of picture books, designs book covers and illustrates chapter books.
