Book Hero thinking about your next read

The south-west coast is the kind of place where people escape to. Unless you have lived there all your life, in which case, you long to get away. Rosie, a young journalist working for an ambulance-chasing editor, and Cray, a mineworker, chuck in their jobs for a sea change in Margaret River.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The south-west coast is the kind of place where people escape to. Unless you have lived there all your life, in which case, you long to get away.

Rosie, a young journalist working for an ambulance-chasing editor, and Cray, a mineworker, chuck in their jobs for a sea change in Margaret River. Liza and Ferg along with their son Sam have been in Margies forever, working their youth away on a farm.

The area is under pressure from developers, and the two families come together in the community's efforts to prevent unwanted change. But when a natural disaster strikes, change is inevitable.

The Break by Deb Fitzpatrick explores themes of escape, community resilience, and the inevitable nature of change.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

The Break is lauded for its evocative prose and setting in the 1990s, providing a nostalgic touch without the distraction of modern technology. The author's deep connection to her home state enriches the narrative, and her incorporation of excerpts from Robert Drewe enhances the storytelling. The short, choppy chapters mirror the sea, adding another layer of depth, and fans of Tim Winton might appreciate the book's textured and intense depiction of the natural environment.
